The reason most chapsticks don’t work, is because they often contain some form of petrochemicals (petrolatum / petroleum jelly / mineral oil / paraffin oil / vaseline.) These substances form an unhealthy waterproof layer over your lips, but prevent the lips from ‘breathing’, much like having a layer of plastic over your lips. In addition, petrochemicals are extremely drying chemicals, so once the moisturizing ingredients have worn off, you are left with dry lips – which forces you to apply more chapstick – and so the cycle continues.
