Detox Before the Holidays

People worry that they will gain weight and become less healthy, during the holidays. Here’s a method of eating that serves as a pre-tox, which is a detox, before the holidays.

Vegan and Raw Foods Pretox Diet

colorful-saladThis is a simple detox diet, and only takes a week. For one week, give your inner organs a rest, and detox by giving up meat, chicken, fish, eggs, and dairy.

Eat lots of raw and cooked vegetables, and as much fruit and fruit juice as you like. Any whole plant foods are allowed, such as nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains.

Avoid alcohol, refined food, and foods containing sugar.

This is a diet about liver and colon cleansing, so don’t beat yourself up if you eat a chocolate, now and then, or a slice or two of pizza. Its about steering in the majority direction of eating clean, whole, plant foods.

To prepare your liver for the upcoming holidays of drinking alcohol, take a supplement that contains 300 mg Milk Thistle, 100 mg Dandelion Root, 50 mg Artichoke, and 100 mg N-Acetyl Cysteine. You will find that these will help the liver to not be so hard hit by alcohol. And they will help speed recovery during the holidays, if you keep taking these supplements daily.

Eat slowly to pretox well

According to Macrobiotic dietary specialists, each mouthful of food should be chewed 20 times, before swallowing.
This ensures that the food is pre-digested by enzymes in the mouth, which:
1) puts less of a strain on the digestive system
2) prevents flatulence ( which is largely caused by not chewing food sufficiently)
Modern studies show that people who chewed each mouthful around 25 times, consume less calories, because the meal takes much longer to complete.
After 20 minutes, the digestive receptors send hormonal messages to the brain, signalling that it is full.
The identical meal, when each mouthful was chewed 6 times, left people feeling hungry.
Chewing your food 20 times, is especially relevant during a detox, when the aim is to give your organs a rest. Its like yoga for your inner organs.
