History of Frankincense
The history of Frankincense is well documented in the Bible, where it is mentioned 17 times (http://www.threemagi.com/frankincense.html).
Ancient Egyptians ran a flourishing trade in Frankincense, and this was proven in 1922 when they opened King Tutankhamun’s tomb, after 3,000 years, finding Frankincense in the tomb.
It has not been proven that the ancients used it as an essential oil. Frankincense drips from the tree’s bark, and can be collected, and diluted in oil. This, however, is a crude form of essential oil, as the real frankincense essential oil must be steam distilled, to extract its molecularly fine properties, which are fine enough to pass through the pores of the skin, and into the bloodstream.
It was prized, nevertheless, as a massage balm, and was used extensively as an incense.
